Overload Principle
It's funny when I first heard the term Overload; it can be used in so many contexts. As women we are overloaded every day. Many of us work full time, work part time, may be married and have children to care for, try to remain fit and healthy, a household to maintain, relationships to maintain, people to cook for, a business we may run, or we may be doing all of these things and a little more. Whatever the case is we all are expected to handle a lot all while remaining strong for the people who are in our busy lives. In a fitness context overload means-Making any particular body system work harder than it is accustomed to work. The Principle of human performance states that beneficial adaptations occur in response to demands applied to the body at levels beyond certain threshold (overload). (Taken Straight from the ACE Personal Trainer Manual). How do the two work together? If we could just step outside the "overloaded" life and into placing "the overload on our body for the beneficial adaptations" wouldn't life be so much sweeter? 1. How is your life currently "overloaded"? 2. How can you focus in on making some time to place that "overload to where it benefits living a healthy lifestyle" 3. Why do you think we have to place our body in overload to receive beneficial adaptations? Next post we will dig a little deeper into what these beneficial adaptations mean for our body.
